What You Can Expect
Please be prepared to be in our offices for approximately two hours on your initial visit and one hour for a typical follow-up visit. The initial visit may not take this long, but we ask that you allow this much time in your daily schedule, so there will not be a conflict.
Because your eyes will be dilated for all of your examinations, we suggest you bring sunglasses for your own comfort. We also strongly advise you to have someone accompany you on your visit to drive you home; we do not recommend that you drive yourself. If you wear prescription glasses, take any medications or use eye drops, please bring them with you.
On your initial visit, please bring your insurance cards and the names and addresses of any other physicians you are presently seeing. A full report will be sent to your referring physician. Please allow one to two weeks for test results, transcription time and mailing time.
Office hours are from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Please give the receptionist a brief description of your eye problem, so the appropriate appointment may be scheduled. A technician may need to return your call to further triage your problem.
If you are unable to keep an appointment, please contact us as soon as possible.
We are available day and night for your convenience. During the day, simply call the office. If an emergency should arise outside of regular office hours, call the office number, and the answering service will notify the doctor on call.
Please do not use the hospital emergency room for eye care unless you are unable to reach one of our doctors.
We are on staff at Sarasota Memorial Hospital in Sarasota.
We also offer services at local ambulatory surgery centers for some select procedures.
Our fees are based on the costs of the procedures, professional skills required and the time involved. As a courtesy to our patients, we will file appropriate insurance forms for medical or surgical charges performed in our office or the hospital. As a participating Medicare provider, we will accept assignment for eligible patients and bill Medicare for you.
Insurance policies vary widely in deductibles, co-payments, exclusions and fee schedules for certain services. Please understand that it is impossible for our staff to know everything about every policy and that it is your responsibility to pay the balance of our charges not covered by your insurance. Your insurance agent or employer can help you with specific coverage information and we encourage you to clarify insurance and billing issues with our billing department prior to services whenever possible.
If it is necessary for you to have a referral from your Primary Care Physician in order to see one of our specialists, it is your responsibility to obtain this from them prior to your visit. If you do not have this authorization, you will be financially responsible for the services provided by our doctors.
The following fees are due and payable at the time of service: Insurance co-pays and fees to fill out various forms. We will also charge for copies of medical records if you wish to have a copy for your own purposes. We do not charge another physician’s office for copies of your records.
Our office staff will gladly answer your questions regarding visual problems, appointments, billing questions, etc. during office hours.
It is best to have your pharmacist call our office during regular office hours for prescription refills. We will send your prescription electronically to your pharmacy. If you change pharmacies, please notify us of this change also.
There are some financial assistance programs available for certain medical treatments that we offer. If it is determined that you are a candidate for one of these programs, we will assist you with the initial paperwork to apply. After that, you will be responsible to supply the various foundations with the requested forms and personal financial history for them to determine if you will qualify for their assistance in covering your medical bills.
We hope that the above information has been helpful to you. We encourage you to contact us with any questions or concerns. It is our mission to provide you with the best medical care available, and our sincere hope to establish a lasting positive doctor–patient relationship.
